The Wilbur and Niso Smith Foundation is a charity that’s dedicated to empowering young writers, as well as the advancement of the adventure writing genre and the promotion of literacy. This year’s Author of Tomorrow competition invites students to submit an adventure story. The piece can be set anywhere in the world, but must explore the themes of courage, endurance and resourcefulness. Protagonists must undertake a journey and experience a different reality or culture. There are prizes for submissions in the following categories: 16-21 years, 12-15 years and 11 and under, with personal prize money, plus book vouchers for winners’ schools. Farmvention Climate Superheroes |

Farmvention is a national STEM competition run by NFU Education, with this year’s challenge aiming to tackle the problems climate change creates for British farmers. There are four themed inspiration hubs to get pupils thinking, and each one is full of investigations to complete at home or at school. Pupils can enter individually, or as part of a team or class, to win £1,000 for their school to spend on STEM or outdoor learning equipment. Fiver Challenge |

Young Enterprise’s free Fiver Challenge helps students take their first step into the world of business as they see what they can create with just £5 over the four weeks of the programme. Using the easy-to-follow resources and taking part in a range of fun activities, pupils aged 5-11 can develop their entrepreneurial skills as they create, research, market and run their own Fiver business to see if they can make a profit. fiverchallenge.org.uk |
Sustrans Big Pedal 2021 |

Sponsored by UK cycling charity Sustrans, the Big Pedal is the UK’s largest inter-school cycling and scooter-based challenge. It aims to inspire and empower kids, teachers and parents to use two wheels to get to school.
